Review

The first time we saw the Lumia 920, we thought it was quite a good-looking but rather large and bulky handset. Taking into account the fact that the rest of the contenders look slick and are lighter as well, this one is quite heavy at 185g. The phone also features a unibody design, which means you can't access the battery. The Lumia 920 runs Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system on a super fast Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 1.5GHz dual-core variety (integrated with 1Gb of RAM). The handset has an impressive 768 x 1280-pixel resolution spread across the 332ppi, 4.5-inch display. The OS on its own is smooth, quite fluid and there’s a slight improvement in motion blur reduction which is occurs while scrolling, thanks to the Pure Motion HD+ display which complete this smartphone. The display is also sheltered by Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The shooter on the rear is Nokia’s famous PureView camera that's equipped with a simple-but-powerful 8-megapixel sensor. Images in broad daylight as well as low light are crisp and clear with great colours and contrast. The camera’s performance in low light is great owing to the BSI sensor within. The overall exposure, white balance and colour reproduction proved to be well above average for a mobile camera. The Lumia 920’s camera is definitely one of the best cameras out there in the mobile domain. Like others WP8 handsets, the Lumia 920 also comes with One Note and Office, and allows you to access SkyDrive, email and documents stored on your handset. Nokia has a list of apps available for the handset on the WP8 store. The battery fuelling the Nokia Lumia 920 is a 2000mAh one, and kept our test device running a full HD 1080p video for a little longer than 5 hours. Though this might sound too less, the actual battery life will depend on your usage, and we are pretty sure that the 920 will last you through the day with casual use. Wireless charging is also another capability of the Lumia 920. However, all the charging stations are accessories you'll have to purchase as extras. Taking into account the actual performance, decent build quality and the superior ergonomics, the Lumia 920 managed to win the Best Value title in this roundup. If it wasn't for the 920, Samsung Galaxy Note and the Apple iPhone 4S were neck and neck for this award.
